Artist Susie Pastor decided to have her
own show and invited other local Artist's to
join her. The "Hidden Talent" Art Event will be
July 7th and 8th, 10:00a.m. to 8:00p.m. both
days, in the Hallmark Resort Conference Room,
1400 South Hemlock.
"There are so many talented people in Cannon
Beach that aren't represented by a gallery, I
thought it would be great fun to give them a
chance to show their talent as well," Pastor
said.
She surveyed restaurants and hotels where
undiscovered artists hold down day jobs and put
out a general call. "If this summer's event is a
success, then we plan to make it a yearly show,"
said Pastor, referring to the event the first
annual "coming out" exhibit extraordinaire.
Pastor attended Pepperdine University on an art Scholarship
but was 'coerced' by well-meaning relatives into changing to the "more
practical" major of Education. It took her years to return to her first
love, but she has again picked up her brushes and is
enthusiastically pursuing her passion for painting.
She paints what inspires her - landscapes, still life,
abstracts, and portraits. She paints with such realism that a
composition of bottles and floats look like real glass. You'd swear a
"still life" she painted of her husband napping actually snores!
For 23 years, Pastor has been the concierge at the
Hallmark where her artwork graces the halls of the resort, from large
murals encompassing the walls of the swimming pools to individual pieces
in the lobby. Her mural of Haystack Rock greets guests checking in at
the main desk. Her works, along with husband Dave's photography, are
displayed at their business, the Cannon Beach Liquor Store - "an
unlikely outlet, but an outlet just the same."
The Hallmark Resort will also hold an open
house of its newly remodeled guest rooms during
the art show. The show is open free to the
public.
